Black Lacquer Square Tray, Sukimono Kyukyaku, with box / Black Lacquer Tray 9pcs

A set of nine black lacquered *shin-nuri* square trays.
Originally a set of ten, but one tray is missing.
The elegant, unadorned *shin-nuri* finish suggests these were connoisseur items custom-made for sake or banquet use.
The box is inscribed in ink: Black Lacquerware, Hōin-an, Sōshun.
Despite their thinness of approximately 2.5mm, they have a substantial feel, indicating the use of dense, high-quality wood. These are considered high-quality practical items from the Kyoto lacquerware tradition, dating from the late Meiji to Taisho periods.

[Product Condition]
These items have been used for banquets and sake gatherings. There are scratches, scuffs, and signs of use that may not be fully captured in the photographs. Please understand that this is an antique item. Overall, the luster is good, and the condition is excellent.
There are no noticeable large scratches, chips, cracks, or breaks.

[Description]
Black lacquered square trays, set of nine (originally ten). Approx. 24cm square with 2.3cm rim height. Elegant plain finish suitable for sake or banquet use. The box is inscribed “Kuro Urushi-nuri / Hōin-an / Sōshun” and marked “Ten guests” on the reverse. Likely formerly owned rather than made by Sōshun. Dense wood base, estimated Meiji–Taisho period Kyoto work.

Antique used item. Previously used at sake or banquet gatherings. There are scratches, scuffs, and signs of use not fully visible in the photos. Please understand before purchase.
