Solid Jacaranda! Chiyoi Koushin No. 20 Classical Guitar ■ All Solid Wood ■
Thank you for viewing. This is a 1978 Chayi Yukinobu Classical Guitar No. 20, made with solid rosewood! It's a fully solid wood instrument. It features a solid spruce top, solid rosewood back, and a very dark, tightly grained ebony fingerboard... crafted with excellent materials and meticulous attention to detail. The Chayi Yukinobu Guitar Workshop, which built this guitar, is a long-established workshop that has been manufacturing guitars and violins since the 1950s. Renowned guitarists such as George Benson, Masayoshi Takarabe, and Gonzares Mikami of Gontiti have also favored Chayi guitars.
The builder, Yukinobu Chayi, passed away in 2011, and his son, Yukihiro Chayi, now carries on the workshop and its techniques. As this instrument was manufactured in 1978, it is a high-quality piece from the era when Mr. Yukinobu Chayi was involved in its production. This guitar cost 200,000 yen at the time (which would be around 500,000 to 600,000 yen today), approximately 50 years ago. In recent years, classical guitars with solid rosewood are rarely available for under 1 million yen. Even after import/export restrictions, it seems that rosewood was not considered as rare a material back then as it is today.
This instrument is nearly 50 years old since its production and has naturally been used, so there are some scratches visible (there are one or two instances of surface checking on the finish, but no cracks or damage). It also exhibits the maker's fingerprint marks from the manufacturing process, which are quite commonly seen on Chayi guitars from this period. While these fingerprint marks are present (for some reason, many of Yukinobu Chayi's rosewood guitars exhibit these marks as a whitish cloudiness, which is a characteristic), there are no cracks or damage, and the neck is in good condition. The guitar is well-maintained as an instrument and a tool for making music.
In terms of sound, it has a very strong projection, with clear individual notes, excellent string separation, and a bright, very lustrous tone. (String length is 650mm, nut width is 50mm, string height at the 12th fret is approximately 3mm for both the 6th and 1st strings, and the neck is straight and in good condition.) As this is a used instrument, there are naturally scratches and signs of use, so please refrain from purchasing if you are sensitive to such details. If you are looking for a Chayi Yukinobu rosewood classical guitar, please take this opportunity to acquire it. Thank you.
