Vtg Norwegian Rosemaling Hand Painted Folk Art Wooden Cheese Board Artist Signed
Handmade
This is a charming hand-painted wooden cheese board (ostelfjel) direct from Norway, handcrafted and signed by Norwegian folk artist Solfried Gåsbakk, featuring rosemaling, a traditional Scandinavian form of decorative folk painting. Painted in dark calligraphy is the beloved Norwegian phrase Skjær pent av osten, which translates to slice the cheese nicely or cut the cheese neatly, a gentle reminder to slice the cheese evenly so it doesn't create an uneven ridge on the block. This board features a raised wooden handle on the left to steady it when slicing cheese with a cheese plane. It serves as a functional kitchen piece, charcuterie server or rustic Scandinavian display. The artist's signature is in the lower right, and her original artist contact label is adhered to the back. This cheese board is in very good condition with light signs of age- and storage-related wear such as minor surface scratches but no major chips, scratches or other significant signs of wear. It's a unique item for collectors of folk art, vintage Scandinavian items, or unique kitchenware.
