Antique Irish Melodies and Sacred Songs Thomas Moore Illustrated Victorian HC

Beautiful antique circa 1878–1880 edition of Irish Melodies and Sacred Songs by Thomas Moore, complete with a memoir, notes, and numerous engraved illustrations throughout. Published by The American News Company, New York (39 & 41 Chambers Street), this Victorian-era hardcover features an ornate red cloth binding with striking black and gilt decoration, making it an attractive collectible and display piece.  This edition is believed to date to the late 1870s to early 1880s, based on the publisher’s address and binding style. It also includes interesting provenance from the Montecito School for Girls Library in Santa Barbara, California, with the original library pocket, date due card, and library stamps still present. A previous owner’s inscription (“Lutie F. Moderwell ’88”) indicates the book was in use by 1888.  Condition:  * Fair antique condition with expected age-related wear.  * Decorative front cover retains vibrant color and attractive gilt detailing.  * Edge wear, rubbing, bumped corners, and fraying to the spine ends.  * Some wear and separation beginning at the hinges; binding remains intact.  * Library pocket, date due card, and institutional stamps present.  * Previous owner’s inscription on the front endpaper.  * Pages are age toned with light foxing and occasional minor staining consistent with age.  * Illustrated plates appear complete.  * Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.
